The Harris Tweed Ride of Glasgow Part III

Dapper gents and elegant ladies gathered en masse at the Georgian splendour of The Blythswood Hotel in Glasgow on the 25th August 2013. It could only be the third edition of The Harris Tweed Ride.

The annual ride, which has quickly become an institution amongst both the cycle and tweed cognoscenti, sets out through The Merchant City and tours along the Clyde making several stops in the city’s West End before returning to The Blythswood Hotel. Highlights this year were new stops at The Tall Ship and Brunswick Hotel together with established greats such as Stornoway Black Pudding at Café Gandolfi or oysters at The Crabshakk.

This year’s event sold out a week in advance and the broad demographic and incredible array of both vintage and contemporary Harris Tweed makes it a unique event. Money raised goes to The Linda Norgrove Foundation and is carefully invested into small projects in Afghanistan including teaching orphans tailoring skills.

The ride seems to have struck a chord with a society much more interested in cycling and heritage fashions. In featuring the best establishments and architecture of Glasgow it has become one of the best international ambassadors for the city. Long may it continue, ‘till the next year; Tally bally ho!!
