The Scottish Style Awards

The neo-gothic splendour of The Kelvingrove Art Gallery provided a fitting setting for the glam-packed Scottish Style Awards.

Harris Tweed was very well represented with around 20 guests picking the Clo Mor (Big Cloth) as their suit/jacket of choice for the evening. Judy Clark won best ladies designer an accolade made the more sweet, as it was her third time as a nominee. The Edinburgh based designer said; “This is a real surprise. I had got used to seeing other people win. I’m really surprised and really happy.” Judy’s uncle is a weaver in the same village as the Harris Tweed Hebrides’ mill and she has been a great ambassador for Harris Tweed. This award is set to act as a springboard for even greater things.

Another Harris Tweed client, Duchamp’s Gianni Colorosso triumphed in best menswear designer category. Duchamp’s Harris Tweed collection has grown over the past few seasons and their coats and jackets retain a classic cut with a modern twist.

The Blackbird - participant in the Edinburgh Tweed Ride - took most stylish bar and the lifetime award went to chef Andrew Fairlie. A great event procured by Mary McGowne at The Vine PR and set amidst the exceptional art of Kelvingrove. The Vettriano retrospective is sensational and worth adding on to any planned trip to Glasgow, it runs until 23 Feb 2014.
